Buro Happold Ltd, supported by the Jakarta team was appointed by C40 to work with the city of Jakarta to develop a climate action plan with the main objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions with the subsidiary objectives to implement climate mitigation and adaptation strategies over the next two years. The scope involved climate modelling, economic benefit assessment and stakeholder capacity building. The first step was to undertake a Strategic Climate Action Plan Appraisal to update the Jakarta climate action plan followed by a Climate Change Action Framework as a means of helping the city align their climate action plans with the objectives of the Paris Agreement. The appraisal was comprehensive covering vision, city context, GHG baseline, risks, implemented climate actions, stakeholder mapping and SWOT analysis. Building the capacity of the city and aligning all its institutions with the outcomes was its major achievement.
